Description: | A fine, vest type armor composed of small, rectangular shingles of horn, overlapped and affixed to a woven plant fiber base by cane stripping and cotton cord. Button fasteners on the rear, plus a very large button at front navel as ornament, carved from the same animal horn. Complete and in exc. cond. Together with a close but non matching helmet made of a woven basketry hat covered with rectangular bone plaque armor plates, each plaque perforated and strung in rows. Accented with rounded horn button plaques. Exhibits an old mellow surface patina. A few minor imperfections, overall exc. cond. Mounted together on a wooden base with metal armiture, custom stand. |
