Philippine Madonna and Child
Fine sculpture of Our Lady of the Rosary, wearing floor length robes covered with a fringed mantle, belted at waist, and deep folds masterfully carved. Baby Jesus sits in her right arm, holding carved rosary beads, and her left arm beneath probably once held dangling rosary beads. She wears a resplendent openwork silver crown and her whole body is framed by a magnificent silver aureole, both with repoussee foliate detail and extended rays. The whole is supported by a carved wood base with inset silver panels, and a green and yellow brocade fabric covers platform. The Madonna’s left hand is carved separately. Pale creamy patina.
